Strawberries

I enjoy the company of mint and parsley plants.
Of basil,
begging me to morph him into pesto.
I enjoy the company of raspberry bushes and
strawberries,
sitting in their wild mess of tangled beauty.
I enjoy the company of the earth
pressed into my feet, the soft grass cradling my soles.
I enjoy the company of country music and hot summer sun.
The overwhelming sound of cicadas
reverberating through the air.
Of my pup
sitting in the shade with her tongue out and
a smile on her face.
I enjoy the company of life all around me.
Holding me like a grandmother holding her child’s child.
I rest my head onto her breast and
let the soft breeze brush my hair and paint the sun on my face.
